HAMLET THE MUSHROOM
In Hamlet the Mushroom, tragedy disguises itself as a game. An anthropomorphic, poisonous, and smiling mushroom takes on the gestures of the Shakespearean prince: wielding a dagger, contemplating a skull, and reciting madness that may only be apparent. But beneath the cartoonish surface, a visual and symbolic short circuit stirs: death filtered through childlike stylization, anguish dressed in soft lines and bright colors.
The graphic language of early American animated films becomes a tool here to explore a disturbing reality, where comedy and tragedy do not contradict but feed each other. The work does not seek balance, but friction. And in that friction, it suggests that laughter may be just another form of doubt.
