761 - HAMLET (2025) mixed media on wood 70x50 cm
Hamlet the Mushroom is part of Le Moschine, a series of characters inspired by the style of American cartoons from the 1920s and 1930s.
Like Shakespeare's Hamlet, Hamlet the Mushroom tells us about poison, madness, and death.
It is painted on wood with acrylic paint, chalks, and colored pencils, finished and fixed with a semi-matte finish.
Tragedy disguises itself as play. An anthropomorphic, poisonous, and smiling mushroom takes on the gestures of the Shakespearean prince: he wields a dagger, contemplates a skull, and recites a madness that may be only apparent. The comic and the tragic do not contradict each other, but feed off one another. The work does not seek balance, but friction. And in that friction, it suggests that laughter may be just another form of doubt.
