Chi ha visto da bambino l’epopea dei primi viaggi spaziali, le missioni Apollo e il primo sbarco sulla Luna, può ricordare con quanta ingenua passione ed entusiasmo furono seguiti questi eventi.

Il mondo credette di essere alle porte di una nuova era, che stessero per spalancarsi su un futuro solcato da  fiammeggianti razzi interstellari, verso nuovi mondi misteriosi popolati da perfidi alieni, creature misteriose e mostri terrificanti. 

Tutto l’armamentario emotivo della guerra fredda, gli incubi di guerra e distruzione vennero proiettati dalla fantascienza sui minacciosi esseri alieni, e Marte era il pianeta minaccioso per eccellenza. I Marziani non potevano essere quindi che perfidi e mostruosi. In realtà, come si vede nel dipinto, erano dei grossi ragni simpatici, e anche piuttosto socievoli.

Anyone who saw the epic of the first space travel, the Apollo missions and the first moon landing as a child, can remember with what naive passion and enthusiasm these events were followed.

The world believed they were at the gates of a new era, that they were about to open up to a future furrowed by flaming interstellar rockets, towards new mysterious worlds populated by evil aliens, mysterious creatures and terrifying monsters.

All the emotional paraphernalia of the Cold War, the nightmares of war and destruction were projected from science fiction onto menacing alien beings, and Mars was the menacing planet par excellence. The Martians could therefore only be perfidious and monstrous. In reality, as can be seen in the painting, they were big friendly spiders, and also quite sociable.

The frame is in gilded wood and measures approximately 110x60x3 cm
